Architecture

The Department of Architecture of the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa is a school created in 1998 with credits already established in the national and international panorama of teaching, practice and research in Architecture. The teaching of architecture is based on the theoretical, technological and cultural excellence of the training of its future architects, teachers and researchers. Teaching is linked to professional practice and research through a faculty made up of professionals of recognized merit, who qualitatively mark national and international contemporary architectural production, as well as the areas of art, technology, humanistics and architectural criticism.

The study plan is divided into two cycles according to the Bologna Process. The 1st cycle, lasting 3 years, grants the degree of Licentiate in Architectural Studies and corresponds to obtaining 180 ECTS. The 2nd cycle, lasting 2 years, grants the degree of Integrated Master in Architecture, and corresponds to obtaining 120 ECTS.
Associated with the Department of Architecture, there is a research center – The Center for Architecture, City and Territory Studies (CEACT) – and its own editorial service with a series of editorial lines and projects. These valences provide diversified extracurricular activities on the condition of the city, the territory and the discipline itself.

It has a moderate school size, with 230 students and 45 teachers. Teaching is centered on Design workshops, a curricular unit concentric with scientific, technological and humanistic disciplines.

Goals

The Architecture Department aims to promote architecture education based on criteria of theoretical-practical, technological and cultural excellence, ensured by a faculty of recognized academic and professional value.

International Accreditation

The Integrated Master in Architecture at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) is the first Portuguese Architecture course, according to the new Bologna curriculum, to obtain recognition at European level with the recent registration in the Community Directive 2006/36/EC (Journal Official of the European Community 2010/EC129/02), which allows the mobility of our masters in the European professional space of Architecture.

  • Adequacy of the degree in Architecture Studies and Master of Architecture taught by the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa Luís de Camões to the 1st and 2nd cycles of studies leading to the degrees of Bachelor and Master in Architecture — Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of March 24th.
