Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture

The Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture aims to:

  1. reinforce the Brazilian and Atlantic vocation in the DHAH and in the institutional culture of UAL by developing programs and projects with internationally recognized scientific quality in the areas of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture and the History of the Atlantic;
  2. to be an instrument to bring together professors, researchers and students dedicated to the study of the aforementioned scientific areas, namely those looking for an academic institution with scientific prestige in Portugal;
  3. offer a permanent scientific update to the faculty and students of UAL in the above mentioned areas of study.
Goals

The Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture aims to:

  1. to be a space for participatory reflection in pluri-institutional projects in the design of study cycles and other training modalities under international programmes;
  2. periodically hold seminars that can be integrated into the educational offer of the different study cycles of the DHAH;
  3. participate with its registered partners in the design and development of scientific projects;
  4. to be a place of reception for Brazilian professors and researchers and other international specialists;
  5. to be a platform for integration, support, supervision and tutoring for students looking to continue their studies in Portugal.
performance

The Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture aims to:

  1. annually promote a master-class, governed by a recognized academic personality;
  2. give regular lectures, namely with the participation of professors and academics of merit traveling to Portugal;
  3. to develop lines of investigation with the protocol partners that allow us to review interpretive paradigms through historiographical debate and theoretical reflection;
  4. associate with registered partners in the organization of international congresses, seminars and other events;
  5. edit and organize publications in the scientific areas in which it is a reference;
  6. to disseminate them, namely through the use of online platforms.
brief analysis

During the academic year 2016-2017, it was possible to implement the program initially designed, taking into account points 2 and 4 of the objectives of the Chair (2. periodically hold seminars that can be integrated into the educational offer of the various DHAH study cycles; 4. be a place to host Brazilian professors and researchers and other international specialists).
Within the action plan of the Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture, previously established points 2 and 6 were also fulfilled (2. regularly hold lectures, namely with the participation of professors and academics of merit traveling to Portugal; 6. to disseminate it, namely through the use of online platforms).
The activities carried out in the context of the Chair during the outgoing academic year (item 3) and the current one (item 4) follow in the following sections.

Introductory note

In this introduction to the activities report, we recall the purposes of the Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture, namely its purposes in:
