- Psychology: One of the following tests – Philosophy, Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences or Portuguese.
- Sports Management: One of the following tests – Economics, Geography or Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences.
- Management Informatics: Test – Mathematics.
- Architecture: One of the following tests – Philosophy, Descriptive Geometry or Mathematics.
- International Relations: One of the following tests – Philosophy, History or Portuguese.
Who can benefit from the International Student Status?
Anyone who does not have Portuguese nationality is considered an international student.
The following are not covered by the provisions of the previous point:
- Nationals of a Member State of the European Union;
- Those who, not being nationals of a Member State of the European Union, have legally resided in Portugal for more than two years, without interruption, on January 1 of the year in which they intend to join UAL, as well as their children residing with them legally, and the time of residence for study is not relevant for this purpose;
- Those who require admission through the special access and admission regimes regulated by Decree-Law No. 393-A/99, of 2 October, amended by Decree-Law No. 272/2009, of 1 October;
- Foreign students who are attending UAL within the scope of an international mobility program to carry out part of a study cycle at a foreign educational institution with which UAL has established an exchange agreement for this purpose.
What are the access and entry conditions?
You can apply for enrollment and enrollment in the undergraduate and integrated master's study cycles at UAL:
- Holders of a qualification giving access to higher education, understood as any diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority that attests to the approval of a teaching program and gives them the right to apply for and be able to enter higher education in the country in which it was awarded ;
- Or holders of a Portuguese secondary education diploma or legally equivalent qualification.
Only international students who, cumulatively, have:
- Specific academic qualification for entry into the study cycle, which will focus on the subjects of the entrance exams established for the study cycle in question within the scope of the general access and admission regime, in order to ensure that only students are admitted through this competition that demonstrate knowledge in the subjects of the entrance exams of level and content equivalent to those of the students admitted through the general regime of access and Portuguese admission;
- Level of knowledge of the Portuguese language required to attend this cycle of studies, or commit to achieving it at UAL before starting their attendance.
Note: Candidates with dual nationality, one of them from a member state of the European Union, cannot apply through this access regime.
Where can I make my application?
Application submission for International students is done online through the application platform.
The application process instruction is done by uploading the required documents. The delivery of the original documents is required at the time of registration.
Students from Brazil
Students who hold the ENEM, taken in 2025, or who have taken it in the previous 5 years (2021 or 2022 or 2023 or 2024) are exempt from taking the internal tests as long as they prove, through the presentation of the ENEM Form, a minimum performance of 475 points in the objective test(s).
Is it possible to apply for more than one degree study cycle?
Yes. The candidate may apply for more than one course and must submit an application for each course he/she intends to attend. Each application process is subject to the payment of the fees contained in the table of fees, fees and charges of UAL.
What are the ranking criteria?
Candidates will be ranked for the respective courses by assigning an application grade, on a scale from 0 to 200, calculated using the following weighting: 65% for the final grade of secondary education and 35% for the grade of the respective entrance exam. Candidates will have to respect the minimum grade of 95 points in the entrance exam and 95 points in the application average. Candidates will be sorted in descending order of their application grades and their placement will be made in the existing vacancies.

The results of each stage of the process should be consulted on the application platform.
Exclusion of candidates
Candidates who:
- They have not filled out their application form correctly, either because they omit some element, or because they indicate others that do not correspond to those contained in the documents delivered;
- Do not meet the conditions to submit to the competition;
- Have not completed the instruction of the respective processes within the due time;
- Make false statements.
Note: The application fee will not be refunded if the candidate is not selected.
1) The application must be accompanied by the following documents:
- 1 current photograph;
- Simple photocopy of the Passport or foreign identity document or residence permit;
- Declaration, under oath of honor, that you do not have Portuguese nationality or that of an EU member country and meet the conditions to benefit from the status of International Student;
- Declaration with the count of the residence time, issued by AIMA, whenever it is not possible to verify through the residence permit;
- Document proving completion of Portuguese secondary education or equivalent, or;
- Document proving a qualification that, in the country in which it was obtained, grants them the right to apply for and enter higher education in that country, duly validated by the competent authority of that country;
- Document proving the grade obtained, specifying the scale of academic grades;
- Certificate of completion of ENEM exams (for candidates from Brazil);
- Citizens of Brazilian nationality, who hold a citizen card, issued under the statute of equality of rights and duties between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals, must also present a document with the date from which they acquired said status.
For candidates with university attendance:
- Certificate of qualifications with curricular units completed in the courses attended or, if not completed, proof of enrollment in the course.
- Study plan(s) for the course(s) attended.
- Workload and program of curricular units completed in the course of origin (if you wish to request credit).
- Document proving that the course and educational institution attended abroad are defined as higher education, according to the legislation of the country in question.
- Documents proving that exams have been taken, as required by the course.
2) For candidates in a humanitarian emergency situation, the application must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Document proving the humanitarian emergency situation;
- Photography
- Identification document;
- Curriculum vitae;
- Motivation letter in Portuguese or English;
- Certificate of completion of secondary education and final exams, translated into Portuguese;
- If you have already attended higher education: certificate of completed curricular units, translated into Portuguese and English;
3) International candidates in emergency situations for humanitarian reasons, who are unable to present the documents identified in points o) and p) of this article, will be subject to an interview to verify the qualifications presented and, whenever justified, to an additional written test.
4) Documents submitted by candidates from foreign educational institutions must be duly signed and recognised by the Educational Institution and the Portuguese consular representation in that country or by the apostille system, in accordance with the Hague Convention.
Training carried out within the scope of other cycles of higher studies granting degrees in national or foreign higher education establishments can be credited, either that obtained within the framework of the organization resulting from the Bologna Process, or that obtained previously.
Academic Credits
- Application for accreditation of academic skills addressed to the President of the Scientific Council;
- Table for requesting accreditation of Curricular Units;
- Syllabus and Hours;
- Certificate of qualifications of the curricular units in which you obtained approval, indicating the regime (semestral or annual) and UC/ECTS number.

Professional Experience Accreditation
- Application addressed to the President of the Scientific Council requesting recognition of professional experience, training obtained within the scope of technological or other specialization courses, for the purpose of continuing studies in a duly identified cycle;
- Table for requesting accreditation of Curricular Units;
- Curriculum Vitae prepared in accordance with the European model, with a detailed description of the functions performed, training within the scope of technological specialization courses or other, obtained by the candidate;
- Statement of proof, issued by the competent authorities, indicating the functions performed, the duration of the same and that makes a qualitative and/or quantitative assessment of the candidate's performance;
- Authenticated certificates of academic qualifications or other training obtained by the candidate;
- Reference letters for the evaluation of the application;
- Other elements considered relevant, namely studies, reports or projects carried out by the candidate.
