THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, ARTS AND HUMANITIES INAUGURATED ITS COMPARATIVE ART HISTORY SEMINAR

On May 29, 2024, in Auditorium 1 of the Autonomous University of Lisbon, the Department of History, Arts and Humanities, through its Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture, inaugurated its Seminar on Comparative History of Art and Literature with the conference “A philology of the sea, 13th to 16th centuries”, by Professor Josiah Doctor Blackmore.

The coordinator of the HCLB Chair, Professor Miguel Figueira de Faria and the director of the Department of History, Arts and Humanities, Professor Frédéric Vidal, presented institutional greetings.

The main protagonist of the conference was Portuguese poetry and its relationship with the oceans, highlighting, in particular, the poetry of Luís Vaz de Camões, a pleasant tribute also to the name of our University and marking the 500th anniversary of the poet's birth .

There were some teachers and students present, with pertinent questions at the end of the session, giving rise to a lively debate, and with many online presence.

Since 2013, Professor Josiah Blackmore has been Director of the Nancy Clark Smith Chair at Harvard University.
