Maria João Guia was an external expert of the European Commission in the area of “Freedom, Security and Justice (2014)”, after having been an alternate member of the Group of Experts on Trafficking in Human Beings. He has worked professionally in the area of migration, borders and criminal investigation. She holds a PhD in Law, Justice and Citizenship in the 21st Century, from the University of Coimbra. She has taught as an invited assistant professor of Political Science in the Law and Criminology Degree in the Master in Law at ISBB, Coimbra (2013-2015), in European Studies at FLUC (2016-2019), and in Criminology at UAL (2018-2020) . He has participated in conferences on the intersection of sociology, law and criminology in doctoral, master's, postgraduate, licentiate and training courses in various areas of knowledge.
Maria João Guia is a national expert and researcher in several European and national projects, namely in the areas of criminology, the rights of victims of crimes, human trafficking, imprisonment and immigrant rights, among others. She is currently a specialist in the European Migration Network (EMN) and director of CINETS
