He holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Geneva (1976) and a Doctor of Psychology from the University of Algarve (2014). Graduated in Medicine from the University of Lourenço Marques (1969), having the Federal Diploma of Medicine from the University of Geneva (1980).
Full professor since 2000 and professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa since 2001.
President of the Pedagogical Council of the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa since 2013, Director of the Department of Psychology and Sociology from 2001-2012.
He is President of the Center for Research in Psychology – CIP/UAL and an integrated researcher. It integrates two projects in the area of Health Psychology: 1) Daytime rhythms and their correlation with academic and cognitive performance; 2) The impact of the experience of childbirth on the marital relationship.
In his vast professional experience, he was Head of the Geneva Sector I team of the Medical Pedagogical Service (1973-1975), Chief Physician of the Clínica do Plátanos in Friburgo (1975-1980) and Medical Officer of the Psychiatric Hospital of the North Sector of the Canton of Vaud (CH) (1980-1983).
Founding Member of APPCPC; Psychotherapist Trainer and Director of Training in Counseling and Psychotherapy.
Author of several books and book chapters in the field of psychotherapy, community intervention and poetry.
Founding member of the World Association for Person Centered & Experiential Psychotherapy & Counseling (WAPCEPC).
Founding member of the Network of European Associations for Person Centered & Experiential Psychotherapy & Counseling, currently PCE-Europe.
