Guest assistant professor at the Department of Communication Sciences, with a degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Beira Interior (UBI), João Ferreira Oliveira has spent a large part of his professional life between newsrooms and the road.
Journalist since 2003, he interned at the AutoSport newspaper, was part of the Rotas & Destinos team for six years, was a major reporter for Volta ao Mundo and Evasões (JN), editor of Evasões 360 (DN), collaborated with Fugas (Público), Must (Business Newspaper), Observador Lifestyle or Jornal do Fundão.
In 2023 he was coordinator of Artéria (2023), a community journalism project promoted by Público.
Specializing in written press, however, he has explored other areas. Presented several episodes of the travel program Volta ao Mundo (RTP3); was co-author of the project Return to Portugal in 80 days (2015), road trip which resulted in a book and the blog Grande Turismo, winner of the title of best professional travel blog in the BTL Blogger Travel Awards 2016.
Literature is another of his passions. In 2021, he transformed a van into a traveling library and headed to the interior of the country with the aim of reading and telling stories. A project called Journey to the Interior, which resulted in a series of reports in Público and a documentary series — broadcast on Porto Canal.
Author of several works for children (three of them included in the National Reading Plan), he also released the book Weekend Player, set of chronicles published on P3 (2012) and, more recently, on the MaisFutebol website (2023).
He is executive editor of the UALMedia website.
