PhD in History from Université Lumière Lyon 2 (France), he has been developing research in the area of social and urban history, and the history of tourism (19th and 20th centuries). He taught at several university institutions, at the first, second and third cycle levels, mainly in the area of social and cultural history of the modern and contemporary era. He was a visiting researcher at the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (Hélio and Amélia Pedroso Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies, 2015) and a visiting professor at the Center for Research and Documentation of Contemporary History of Brazil (CPDOC) at Getúlio Vargas Foundation (2013). He is an integrated researcher at the Center for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) and a member of the editorial board of the journal Ler História.
