José Alberto Ribeiro was born on 22 August 1971 in Luanda. He holds a degree and a Master's degree in Art History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon and is currently a PhD candidate at the same university, with a doctoral thesis dedicated to Queen D. Amélia de Orléans and her patronage and artistic work. He was a visiting assistant at the Faculty of Arts between 2002 and 2009. He is a museum technician at the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, where he has directed the Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves House-Museum since 2006. Both in published studies and in exhibition catalogues, he has focused his research on the fields of Museology and Portuguese art of the 19th and 20th centuries, with particular attention to members of the Portuguese Royal Household and their cultural and artistic practices.
