The advances and challenges so far in focusing on the Water-Food-Energy Security Nexus in Peru, and on the relationship between ecosystems and sociocultural systems in the Municipality of Sesquilé in Colombia will be discussed. Both approaches are being applied to the issue of water in the respective countries.

SUSTAINABLE WATER MANAGEMENT: CHALLENGES, CONSEQUENCES AND IMPLICATIONS OF THE CROSS-BORDER DIMENSIONS OF THE WATER CYCLE
The variables given by the sociodemographic, economic and political profile of the resources and the specific characteristics of the natural environment where the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiái River Basins are located are presented and discussed. , their availability and the necessary conservation of water sources at national and international levels.
In order to face the challenges of water security, in its multiple dimensions, it is proposed to use tools from Information and Communication Technologies and Information Systems for the construction of management models based on the concept of intelligent hydrographic basins.
