For Teachers and Staff,
Entering higher education is a period of change and alterations that can be demanding for the individual. There is a change of educational establishment, teachers, colleagues, and sometimes even home, which implies a reorganization of the role that the individual plays. These changes require greater levels of autonomy, resilience and time management. Taking all these changes into account, if the individual does not have a secure psychological structure and a perception of a good support network, they may resort to self-harming and addictive behaviors. What if entering higher education occurs calmly and positively? The demands of the study cycle itself and the possible changes or life events that may occur continue to allow the initiation of risky behaviors. Furthermore, the accessibility of some materials and peer pressure or failure to manage frustration due to unmet expectations can also lead the student to addictive or self-harming behaviors. It is extremely important to be alert and recognize the signs in order to be able to provide support early and minimize the consequences of such behaviors and suffering.
