It is with great regret that the Autonomous University of Lisbon announces the death of its professor Luís Carmelo.
He started teaching at the University in the 1990s. He was a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences, responsible for the curricular unit of 'Semiotics' in the Degree in Communication Sciences, an academic field in which he excelled and received a doctorate from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. He was a researcher at NIP-C@M at Autónoma and at the Center for Communication and Society Studies at the University of Minho.
Luís Carmelo was the author of a vast literary and essayistic work, with more than a dozen published novels (notably “A Falha”, adapted for the cinema by João Mário Grilo, in 2002) and more than 15 essay books around areas such as semiotics, cultural theory, literature and the multidisciplinary intersection of contemporary expressions.
