Mónica Taveira Pires is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, where she teaches the subjects of Developmental Psychology; Educational Psychology and Psychopedagogy; and Internship Seminars. Completed a PhD in Health Psychology at the University of Algarve/Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (2010), a Postgraduate degree in Counseling and Therapeutic Intervention at UAL/Portuguese Association of Person-Centered Psychotherapy and Counseling (APPCPC), a Degree in Clinical Psychology at ISPA-Instituto Universitário/Psychological, Social and Life Sciences (2003) and the Bachelor's Degree in Educational Sciences/Early Childhood Education at Escola Superior de Educação João de Deus (1997). She is a psychotherapist and trainer at APPCPC, specializing in psychotherapy/play therapy with children, parental counseling and couples and family psychotherapy. Her research work focuses on family studies, understanding family functioning in different types and contexts, such as marital relationships, parent-child interactions and their association with child development from early childhood. Currently in two research projects 1) Family functioning, coparenting and child adjustment: An intercultural study, with families from Portuguese-speaking countries (not separated and separated/divorced with different regimes of parental responsibilities); and 2) Autonomous families: Family-centered action research, which seeks to understand multi-challenged families in contexts of psychosocial vulnerability. She supervised more than 50 dissertations, published several sections of books, articles in national and international scientific journals and is a reviewer for several scientific journals.
