He graduated in Eng. Electronics at the University of Brasília, Brazil, and the Master and Doctorate at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Eng. Electrical and Computer Engineering and Eng. Informatics and Computers, respectively.

He has been teaching in an academic environment since 2002, at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Universidade Mackenzie de São Paulo and Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal. Prior to that, for several years he taught technical courses with Microsoft and Sun Solaris certifications. He has also done consultancy work on several occasions in the IT area.

His areas of interest include the Internet of Things and Smart Cities, web programming, agile methodologies and software engineering.
