Opportunities to volunteer at UAL
This volunteer program has as its dual main objective the promotion of academic success and the prevention of school dropouts, assuming itself as an action by students for students.
The aim is to identify and act on situations of school failure, as well as to facilitate the academic integration of students, in a healthy environment of cooperation and sharing.

Rádio Autónoma has animated Banco Alimentar’s food collection volunteer campaigns since 2006, in an initiative organized by Atelier Rádio João de Sousa. The objective is to give joy, motivation and rhythm to the volunteers during the weekend, with a live radio broadcast.
From a studio set up in the Lisbon warehouse of the Banco Alimentar, from opening to closing, groups of professors, students and alumni of the Autonomous University of Lisbon ensure that animation is a constant among the volunteers who help to set up this food collection campaign in more than 2,000 stores and 21 food banks across the country. This is the largest volunteering action in Portugal, involving around 40,000 volunteers.
In addition to being transmitted locally, through amplification and loudspeakers, the broadcast is transmitted via the internet, on Rádio Autónoma, and usually followed by other food banks.
The management of CEU, the founding entity of the Autonomous University, supports this initiative from the outset. It was precisely to guarantee its quality that the material was acquired to create an outdoor radio studio.

AUTONOMA UNIVERSITY MOVEMENT
As students, we end up being part of an institution linked to education, which aims to also be a privileged place to start changing mentalities. We want to make the change, assuming that acceptance of what each one is, as an individual, as well as mutual respect and understanding between all of us, who belong to this community, the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, is more important.
This change starts in the present, but we hope that this project will continue in the future, with even more innovative ideas in order to enable the well-being and safety of those to come. The problems may be different, but the existence of a support network for students, with a simple and accessible format, it is important that it always exists.
The MUDA Project (Movimento Universitário de Diversidade da Autónoma), aims to accept diversity in all its forms, with the aim of promoting self-esteem, mutual respect and security in society and the academic environment.
We have to embrace the difference, that is, CHANGE for MORE and BETTER.
The first solidarity practice at the Autonomous University of Lisbon was in 2014. The Academic Association asked Prof. João de Sousa, due to previous practice with the Food Bank, to organize an action that was simultaneously welcoming freshmen and volunteering. The Food Bank and the Bank of Donated Goods found a need, to remove tons of paper from an archive of the Regional Directorate of Economy, in Alfragide, in exchange, a Quima company would deliver food to BA. Just one day for action, with a truck at the door and time running out. The university collaborated with an authentic human chair, which took turns between freshmen and seniors. The CEU management rented a bus to transport the students to the location. After hours of work, the archive was empty and the truck was full. Autónoma’s communication office created the brand “Autónoma Solidárias”. In the photo below, it is possible to have t-shirts with this brand.

Autonomous Help Nepal
The Autonomous Help Nepal initiative started with a Communication Sciences finalist student, Daniela Santos, in 2015.
Following the earthquake in that country, a student and a group of colleagues proposed to raise money to send to that country, through a collection held in the university courtyard. The initiative was supported by various instances of the university, in particular by the Department of Communication Sciences.
A group of teachers and students created a publicity campaign (videos 1, 2 and 3). The day the collection took place was enlivened with a live radio broadcast, facilitated by the DCC and carried out by the group of student organizers.
The collected money was sent to Nepal through a group of Portuguese volunteers in the field.
CEU contributes with an amount equal to that collected (between university students and professors) in the campaign.
