LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK WORKSHOP

UAL, Palácio dos Condes de Redondo – Room 59 from 2pm to 3:30pm and Room 40 from 4pm to 5:30pm

Teamwork is an essential component of teaching-learning strategies based on student participation and collaboration. The effective functioning of a team requires the assumption of leadership behaviors by one or more of its members, which will have more impact the greater their skills in this area.

This activity aims to awaken students to fundamental aspects of leadership and correct possible prejudices and erroneous ideas in this field. Additionally, it aims to enable students to take on a leadership role in their study teams whenever necessary to improve their performance and achievement.

LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK WORKSHOP

Two more “Leadership and Teamwork” workshops were held at UAL on April 15th, within the scope of the AMBAÇÃO Project/CAMPUS Autónoma/ESEJD, with Professor João Paulo Feijó as speaker. The first Workshop given to the 3rd year class and the second given to the 1st year class, which also included Erasmus students, both Communication Sciences classes, students of Professor Carmen Monereo, who integrated these workshops as a complement, important, of the program to be taught.

Several multiple choice questions were presented on various leadership situations, which the students responded to, in real time, through the application, the mentimeter.com.

The Situational Model was presented, in a relationship of competence and motivation, task and relationship, where one must participate, encourage, collaborate and provide the means for greater motivation and one must explain, clarify, convince and persuade towards greater competence, as well how to delegate, observe, monitor and verify for full results.

Relevance was made of the power distance that exists in some countries, where this increases in cultures where power is unevenly distributed.

The qualities of a good follower were also discussed, with “Proactivity” being fundamental, deciding when necessary, “Independence of spirit”, fighting for a different opinion, “Loyalty”, when the leader makes a mistake and we must help him and “Humility”.

“Being a leader is not a position, it is a service. When we give, we receive and we all grow. A time to follow, a time to lead, and a time to walk away.”
