Community project workshop — art in the intercultural context

The project was approved and financed, through a protocol, with the Municipality of Almada, and is being carried out through a partnership between the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon (coordination) and CEACT.

The project proposes, in an innovative way, to implement a community public art project, substantiating proposals for artistic elements of community and urban reference in the municipality of Almada (municipality of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, which extends over the bank of the Tagus River opposite that of Lisbon). To this end, it develops cultural action strategies close to vulnerable communities in the Bairro do Pica Pau Amarelo.

The project is oriented towards fieldwork in a multicultural community, inserted in an urban area of the municipality of Almada that reflects the difficulties of integration and cohesion at the social and urban level. Its organization, mostly formed by rehousing housing complexes, is a physical space that reproduces in the degradation of its public space the social, economic and cultural problems of those who inhabit it.
