World Cancer Day is more than just a day on the calendar, aiming to inspire change and mobilize action.
The theme “For Fairer Care” aims to raise awareness of the equity gap that affects many people around the world.
Access to early diagnosis and oncological treatments saves lives! These must be the same for everyone, regardless of age, income or place of residence.
WHAT IS IT?
World Cancer Day (DMC) is an initiative of the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), of which the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) has been a full member since 1983.
WHEN:
Since 2000, World Cancer Day has been celebrated on February 4th.
The Portuguese League Against Cancer challenges Schools/Organizations to promote initiatives during the month of February 2024, showing that we must talk about the disease and know how to prevent it.
WHY:
Cancer is the second biggest cause of death worldwide and its incidence tends to increase.
However, it is known that 1 in 3 may be:
- avoided by reducing behavioral risks;
- cured, if detected early and treated appropriately;
Conscious and determined actions, particularly in the area of prevention, will prevent millions of deaths from cancer.
This gives us arguments to act!
