Recently, a global call for the modernization of mental health service delivery models is underway, reinforcing that care should be provided mostly at the community level. An important consequence of this change refers to its implication for family members of people with mental disorders who are increasingly involved in care activities. Caring can be an onerous and distressing task, but also a positive and rewarding experience. Outcomes of care surveys are often used to assess the quality of service delivery. Nevertheless, caregivers' experiences are rarely interpreted within a sociocultural framework.
