This conference presents the main research opportunities identified in four fundamental axes: entrepreneurship, digitalization, tourism and political uncertainty. The academic collaboration between the Autonomous University of Lisbon and the University of Extremadura exposes the most promising lines of research at the intersection of these critical variables. For each axis, the most relevant research questions, suggestions for methodological approaches and potential theoretical and practical contributions will be presented. This presentation seeks to stimulate academic debate and encourage future collaborations in these interrelated areas.

Adelaida Ramos Mariño
Adelaida Ramos-Mariño has a degree in Tourism from the University of Extremadura and a Master’s degree in Social Sciences Research. She worked in the tourism sector for 5 years as a Hotel Reception Manager and in customer service roles. She is currently a researcher at the University of Extremadura, where she is in the first year of her PhD in Economics and Business. She is also a researcher at the EMTURIN group, where she collaborates on projects such as GUESSS Extremadura and FAEDPYME, among others. The project she is currently working on is DIGEPYME II, whose lines of research focus on digitalisation in small and medium-sized enterprises, specifically in the Extremadura region.
Antonio Fernandez Portillo
International PhD in Financial Economics and Accounting with an Extraordinary Award. He is a professor in the Department of Financial Economics and Accounting at the University of Extremadura, in the Faculty of Economics, Finance and Tourism, where he is also responsible for Quality. He is a lecturer and coordinator of the Emturin2020 Research Group. He also has experience in the professional world, where he was responsible for a sports association and as a self-employed worker. He has directed several training programmes in entrepreneurship and innovation, was technical director of several research projects on entrepreneurial activity and the performance of SMEs in Extremadura, and is part of several international research networks on entrepreneurial activity and the performance of SMEs, including GEM, GUESSS and FaedPyme. He is a full academician of the European Academy of Business Economics and Management (AEDEM), where he is currently Vice-President. He has published in the main journals and editorials in the field of Business Management.
António Cabeças
PhD in Economics from UAL, Master in Management from UAL and Degree in Systems Engineering from ISIG. Associate Professor in the Bachelor's Degrees in Economics, Management and Sports Management at DCEE, and in the Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Engineering, Management Informatics and Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering at DECC, and Professor of Risk Management in Computer Projects in the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications. Director of a Financial Institution and Researcher with several articles published in national and international scientific journals.
Jessica Paule Vianez
PhD in Finance with international distinction and extraordinary award from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid, Interuniversity Master in Computational Statistical Treatment of Information from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Universidad Complutense (Spain), and Master in Research in Social and Legal Sciences, Bachelor in Finance and Accounting and Bachelor in Business Administration and Management from the Universidad de Extremadura (Spain). Professor and researcher in the Department of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Universidad de Extremadura. She was a professor and researcher in the Department of Business Economics at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. Researcher in the EMTURIN group at the Universidad de Extremadura and MBERG at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. Her main line of research is the impact of Economic Policy Uncertainty on different economic and financial aspects. She has several publications in high-impact national and international journals and has been awarded several awards for her research.
Manuel Almodóvar Gonzalez
Degree in Business Administration and Management. Specialization in Finance. San Pablo University CEU (Madrid). Diploma in Advanced Studies from the University of Extremadura. PhD in Business, Finance, Insurance and Tourism from the University of Extremadura. Entrepreneur and CEO of a service company for 15 years. He is currently a Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Finance and Tourism of the University of Extremadura. He has numerous publications, including scientific articles in high-level international journals.
Sandra Ribeiro
She holds a PhD in Economics from the Autonomous University of Lisbon (UAL), a Master's degree in Monetary and Financial Economics from the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG) and a degree in Economics from UAL. She is an Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, where she has taught since 1999. She has been a visiting adjunct professor at the Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration of Lisbon (ISCAL) since 2014 and a trainer since 2003. She is an integrated researcher at the OBSERVARE Research Centre – Observatory of Foreign Relations of UAL, where she coordinates the research line “Economic Spaces and Resource Management”.
She is the author and co-author of several books and book chapters. She has published several scientific articles in indexed international scientific journals, namely SCOPUS and WEB of Science. She has presented and published several papers at congresses, conferences and seminars. She is also a reviewer of international scientific publications. Her research areas are: Economics and International Trade, Economics and Macroeconomics.
He is a member of AEA (American Economic Association), ASEPELT (Asociación Internacional de Economía Aplicada) and AEDEM (European Academy of Management and Business Economics).
