The conference describes and analyzes the emergence and development of group psychotherapy, discussing the constitution of experiential groups and their process of facilitating cooperation, one of the main qualities of this type of group, from the perspective of gestalt therapy. In this sense, it describes the evolution of group practices until the development of the gestalt or experiential group, emphasizing its phases, its characteristics, commonly emerging themes, the most common attitudes of its participants and the roles and tasks of the facilitator of experiential groups.

Professor Doctor Georges Boris
Psychologist, Master in Education and Doctor in Sociology from the Federal University of Ceará. He did a post-doctoral internship in practical philosophy at the University of Beira Interior, in Covilhã, Portugal. He is a full professor linked to the Postgraduate Program and the Psychology Course at the University of Fortaleza. Coordinator of the Laboratory of Psychopathology and Phenomenological Humanist Clinic – APHETO. Founding partner of Aware – Gestalt-Therapy Center. Phenomenological-existential psychotherapist, supervisor of internships in clinical psychology and trainer of psychotherapists in gestalt-therapy. translator of Ego, Hunger and Aggression: A Review of Freud's Theory and Method, by Frederick Perls, published in Portuguese by Summus Editorial. Phenomenological-existential psychotherapist, supervisor of internships in clinical psychology and trainer of psychotherapists in gestalt-therapy. Author of Men's Speeches: The Construction of Male Subjectivity, launched in 2002, by the agreement Annablume/Secretariat of Culture and Sports of the State of Ceará, republished in 2011 by Editora Annablume, and of Experiential Groups and Cooperation: A Gestalt Perspective, published in 2013 by Intermeios Cultural. Organized, with Daniela Schneider and Fernando Gastal, J.-P. Sartre and the Challenges to Contemporary Psychology, published by Editora Via Verita in 2017. He was president of the Institute of Humanistic and Phenomenological Psychology of Ceará. He is a member of the Psychology & Phenomenology working group of the National Association for Research and Graduate Studies in Psychology – ANPEPP.
