Adriana Barreto de Souza holds a master's and a doctorate in Social History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, 2004), with an internship at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, 2001), and associate professor at the Department of History at the Federal University. Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRuralRJ), with a postdoctoral degree at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, 2015/2016). She is a researcher at CNPq and Young Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ). She was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon – ICS/UL (2011/2012 and 2014/2015) and at the University of Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne (2015/2016). She was also a researcher in three editions of PRONEX (FAPERJ/CNPq).

In 1997, he received the National Research Archive Award with his master's thesis entitled: “The Army in the consolidation of the Empire: a historical study on conservative military policy”, published in 1999. In 2008, his doctoral thesis was published by Brazilian Civilization with the title “Duque de Caxias: the man behind the monument”. Among his main fields of study are History of Empire Brazil, History of Military Institutions, History of Law and Justice, Historiography and Biography.
