Located in the heart of the city of Lisbon, more precisely in Marquês de Pombal in Lisbon, the Universidade Autónoma benefits from a unique location, served by a vast network of public transport with connections to the train, metro and buses.
A few meters on foot from the subway station “Rotunda” students will find the Palácio dos Condes do Redondo, the headquarters of the University. An emblematic place that is part of the history of Portugal.
With a unique architecture of the Baroque type and rectangular shape, the Palácio dos Condes do Redondo was built in the 17th century by the Count of Redondo. In 1686 it passed into the possession of the Crown, and later became the residence of the dowager queen of England, Dona Catarina de Bragança.
At the end of the 18th century it underwent improvements and in 1878, with the aim of building the adjacent Camões neighborhood, part of the property where it was located was sold. In the 20th century, more precisely in 1939, its south wing suffered a fire. During that century it also served to house primary education institutions and social organizations, as well as commerce and accommodation for people in need.
Since December 13, 1985, when the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa was founded, it has become the campus Autonomous headquarters, stage of dreams and knowledge of generations of university students.

Since 1985, the date of its foundation, thousands of students and different generations have passed through the University who have trusted Autónoma with their dreams and the guarantee of a promising future.
Years of dedicated study and demanding work without forgetting the conviviality, companionship and mutual help of colleagues, teachers and collaborators.
Those who passed through the campus remember unique and unrepeatable moments, memories that are perpetuated in time, only possible thanks to a unique welcome from all those who are part of the project of excellence that is Autónoma.

AUTONOMOUS, a higher university
The Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL), created on December 13, 1985, is the oldest private university in the country.
On the way to four decades of experience at the service of the academic community, Autónoma has already trained thousands of senior managers in Portugal and abroad.
With a teaching staff of excellence and a wide range of training courses, consisting of degrees, masters, doctorates and postgraduate degrees in the most varied areas of knowledge. UAL is an unavoidable reality in Higher Education in Portugal and in the international academic and scientific community, reinforcing the link between the academic and business worlds.
Autónoma, which is recognized for the widest placement of recent graduates in the job market, develops its project carefully, providing its students with the development of skills, critical thinking, individual autonomy and the ability to take initiative.
Through a teaching staff of excellence, it also develops advanced training for doctorates and masters, with a range of support services in the didactic-pedagogical sphere and support services: canteens and bars, reprographics, bibliographic and IT support, scholarships tuition and study fees, school insurance, support for internships and career management, as well as sporting and cultural activities.
