The session “Progress in the international climate debate” will discuss some milestones since the second half of the 20th century that contributed to the advancement of environmental issues at an international level and the incorporation of climate issues into the multilateral agenda. The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 (Eco-92) marked the establishment of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which has the Conference of the Parties (COP) as its supreme body. During the session, highlights of the international climate debate throughout the COPs will be addressed, which this year will have its 30th edition to be held in the Brazilian Amazon.
