SIECO III – International Seminar Studies on Transnational Organized Crime, which will take place at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, from February 26th to March 1st, 2024, is an international scientific event held by Ratio Legis – Center for Research and Development in Sciences Legal Department of the Autonomous University of Lisbon in partnership with JusGov/JusCrim of EDUMinho and PUC-RS.
The speakers propose to discuss the current law and the ongoing criminal legislative changes regarding the destination of the proceeds of organized crime, the normative application at the material and criminal procedural level to the phenomenon under study, the relationship between organized crime and new technologies and the consequent influence of these on criminal legislation.
The prosecution of this crime requires that the State maintain the firmness typical of a democratic constitutional state (Kriele) in the face of the insatiable immediate response requested by the community, entangled in a communication based on a relentless ephemerality whose vaporization gains spaces of affirmation and dominance over the dynamics of globalization [the power of crime and the crimes of power], the prevention and repression of crime and criminal policies that must be anchored in the ethical superiority of the State.
This debate will feature experts from Germany – Humboldt University –, Brazil – PUC-RS, UNIVALI, FACAMP, FADI and ESP/ANP-PF –, Spain – University of Seville and University of Salamanca –, Italy – University of Messina – and Portugal – School of Law of the University of Minho, Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University and Lusófona University.
The event integrates the activities of the R&D Project Corpus Delicti – Studies of Transnational Organized Crime of UAL's Ratio Legis, which has been developing and publishing studies since 2018 on the phenomenon of transnational organized crime and is, today, the basis of an international network of scientific studies on one of the phenomena that undermines the essence of community life and democracies.
