The Master Program in Business Management (MBM) at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) is a program aimed to provide students with high quality training at international level in the field of management and company administration in order to meet market demands in an increasingly practical field, through combining practical company management and scientific research in economic and business sciences. The program’s study plan and the course units’ syllabi were designed so as to train students in order to provide them with the skills for successful professional and academic careers at national and international levels.
This Master Program in Business Management was developed so as to combine academic knowledge and actual business practice, thus including themes within the different functional areas of corporate management, such as internationalization and management of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The MBM study plan, registered in the Directorate-General for Higher Education under n.º n.º R/A -Ef 1144/2011/AL01 dated 5 May 2016, pursuant to Announcement n.º 137/2016, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, N.º 101, on 25 May 2016, was designed and approved by the Scientific Committee of the Department of Economic and Business Sciences (DCEE) at UAL considering candidates with a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Management or a related field aiming to further their knowledge in company management and administration.
In the 2nd edition of the MBM, which took place in 2017-2018, some changes were introduced in the application and selection processes, as a result of the experience gained from the 1st edition.
So as to allow for applicants whose previous academic training was not in Economics, Management or related fields, UAL now offers, free of charge, a set of preparation courses (Cursos de Homogeneização de Conhecimentos – CHC) on analytical tools for management, introduction to economics, accounting and finance, i.e., on the technical and scientific core training fields in Management. The CHC aim to provide students with basic knowledge so as to enhance successful learning processes. The CHC that individual applicants must successfully complete will be defined upon an interview (eventually via Skype) with the Head of the Department and the Master’s Scientific Coordinator. The same procedure will be carried out in case of applicants who did not successfully complete all the course units within the Master’s scientific fields in their Bachelor degree or legally equivalent program.
Due to the growing number of Erasmus+ students coming to UAL to attend this Master Program, in 2018-2019, two classes will be created, one lectured in Portuguese and one lectured in English. Those students whose mother tongue is Portuguese may opt for attending the classes lectured in English upon request to the Master’s Scientific Coordinator.
The 2nd edition of the MBM will also provisionally admit full-time and part-time students, the latter having a maximum of twenty-four months starting from the beginning of the first semester to complete the program’s coursework.
The dates previewed for the CHC are 18 September to 20 October 2018. The first semester of the MBM will start on 23 October 2018 and end on 1 February 2019 and the second semester will start on 5 March 2019 And end on 7 June 2019. The supplementary exams will take place between 5 and 23 February 2019 for the 1st semester, and between 11 and 29 June 2019 for the 2nd semester.
