José António Pinheiro was a Professor at NOVASBE for many years, where he led all the chairs of Quantitative Methods in Degrees and Masters, and is currently a Guest Professor at NOVAIMS where he has been in charge of the discipline of Theory and Methods of Sampling for Masters and Postgraduates. He is an Associate Professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa where he teaches Mathematics to Economists and Administrators of Health Units.

He holds a degree in Mathematics and a Master's in Statistics and Information Management. He was a consultant for Eurostat, and is currently a trainer for this organization, as well as for the UN. Author of the first quality works in European statistics. Extensive experience in statistics of the former eastern countries during the period of accession to the European Union. He was a consultant to the bank of Portugal for sampling matters.
