AMBITION PROJECT | AUTONOMOUS CAMPUS / ESEJD

Promoting success and combating school dropout

The AMBITION Project is a partnership between the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and the Escola Superior de Educação João de Deus that aims to promote academic success and combat school dropout among students in the first years of courses at both institutions, based on an innovative intervention on the pedagogical methodologies, teaching practices and technological instruments to be mobilized.

This project originates from the victory of the joint application to the Program for the Promotion of Success and Reduction of Abandonment in Higher Education, created within the scope of the PRR to stimulate the development of mechanisms to support the academic integration of new students and the promotion of their success, through adoption of innovative teaching and learning practices and strengthening self-learning and teamwork practices.

Specifically, the AMBITION Project aims to achieve the following goals:

  • Reduce school dropout rates by 1/3 of that seen in 2021/22, measured by the registration renewal rate of students enrolled for the first time in the first year in the previous academic year;
  • Reduce by 50% the rate of students who reduce the number of credits taken in the following academic year;
  • Promote the cultural and academic integration of students from other countries;
  • Reduce the annual failure rate in curricular units considered critical.

The project is structured around four main axes or measures carried out by joint teams from both institutions:

  • Monitoring and monitoring school success
  • Pedagogical innovation
  • Technologies applied to improve school success
  • Mentoring and tutoring network

The scheduled activities will take place between November 2023 and December 2024, most of them integrated into the AUTÓNOMA CAMPUS / ESEJD, a set of initiatives focused on students and academic life covering topics such as emotional well-being, physical and mental health, gender equality, intercultural relations, leadership, teamwork and student participation in their learning, with the aim of providing the necessary conditions for the full fulfillment of each student at Escola Superior de Educação João de Deus and Universidade Autónoma from Lisbon.
