The II Pan-Africanism Seminar – Yesterday and Today is entirely dedicated to one of the most prominent Marxist Pan-Africanist thinkers and politicians of the 20th century: Amílcar Cabral, the founder and leader of the PAIGC – African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, whose birth centenary is celebrated this year.
This seminar, organized by the Department of Communication Sciences of the Autonomous University of Lisbon, will welcome several guests to speak on the topic. Among them are researchers Julião Soares Sousa, Hilarino Luz, Teresa Martinho together with Daniel Pina, first secretary of the PAIGC in Portugal, Yussef, a Guinean activist and doctoral students Jorge Fonseca de Almeida.
We expect a series of interventions of great academic relevance and a lively and participatory debate. We invite students from all levels of education to participate, especially those who feel the weight of racism, xenophobia or other forms of discrimination.
Pan-Africanism maintains great appeal in Portugal, where it has a historical heritage dating back to the early 20th century and a role in the current theoretical approach and fight against racism and all types of discrimination and segregation.
