CONFERENCE ON CULTURE OF PEACE AND HUMAN RIGHTS: WHAT ABOUT THE CRISIS?

2 Dez 2025 - 18:30

Auditório 1

As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, the global community faces a paradoxical landscape: unprecedented normative progress in human rights and, simultaneously, a deepening crisis of violence, polarization, and democratic erosion. This conference examines how the Culture of Peace framework—rooted in the UN’s foundational principles—remains essential for renewing global commitments to human dignity and sustainable coexistence. By revisiting the evolution of human rights within multilateralism, participants will explore how current crises challenge the effectiveness of international institutions and invite a reinvigoration of peace-centered approaches to global governance. The event highlights practical methodologies for cultivating a consciousness for peace, including education for human rights and peace, intercultural dialogue, community-based peacebuilding, and practices that strengthen empathy, cooperation, and nonviolent conflict transformation. In reflecting on eight decades of the UN, the conference seeks pathways to adapt and deepen the Culture of Peace paradigm in response to contemporary threats, reaffirming its role as a cornerstone for global justice and sustainable development.
