Sciences and Technologies

The Sciences and Technologies Department (STD) is a multidisciplinary unit of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) in the field of technologies, responsible for the teaching of several study cycles and for Research and Development activities (R&D) in technological areas, such as Information Systems and Technologies, and Electronic Systems and Telecommunications.
The STD contributes to the training of persons with high technical and human skills that are essential for companies, state entities and other organizations and systems in their various sectors of intervention. The department’s solid quality of its study cycles is attested by the high degree of employability of its graduates and the feedback from their employers.
This renewed department has been implementing a new university strategy that includes the creation of new study cycles that complement the renewed previous training offer, establishing partnerships with external entities that solidify the training offer and R&D, the setting up of the Autonoma Techlab research centre, and the renovation of spaces and laboratories used in training and R&D activities. By providing solid and competitive training in the spirit of the Bologna Declaration, the STD has special responsibilities in coordinating and implementing the following higher education programmes:

Bachelor Degrees

Master Degree
Computer and Telecommunication Engineering

The STD also coordinates a number of non-degree courses, such as the Cisco CCNA course under the aegis of the Cisco Academy of UAL and the postgraduate qualification in Cable and Wireless Networks: Theory & Practice.
The STD’s faculty is young and composed of 90% of PhD holders who meet all the rigour, quality, experience, and professionalism criteria, both scientifically and pedagogically, being a solid team available to guide students in their learning process.
With this strategy, UAL reinforces its position among Portuguese private universities in the offer in new technologies.
